After patiently waiting in prayer, God has opened the opportunity for us to open our home to another child.  God has blessed us with two daughters and now we are working to adopt a third daughter (God willing) from Ethiopia.

Fevers and First Days of School....
It's been a rough two days for Belle but she is finally feeling a little better.  She is still sleeping as I write this and she is warm, but not hot like she has been.  It's been tricky with getting Amy to practice, Jason's school, grocery shopping, etc.  Thank you to all of our church family who have helped us.  We love you!

Amy likes school a lot this year.  She's growing up so fast.  Her first soccer game is next Friday.  I need to figure out how to post pictures!!!

We are now waiting on our I-171H, which is the last piece of paperwork we need.  It will be amazing to have our paperwork in the mail and GONE!  The green Tupperware file case with our dossier has had a place in the living room since April and I will be glad to see it gone.  I thank God that we have been able to get most things done so quickly.

This weekend will be crazy.  I have drill and Jason has an upgrade and Amy has a project to start for school.  Belle has a birthday party for one of her closest friends and she will be crushed if she can't go.  But, hey, I am excited.....  One more drill after this weekend!!!

No Slowing Down
I am laughing right now because I thought maybe life was going to slow down this month.  No chance of that!  Jason is still in school, although it is just one class and he doesn't have to travel far.  Amy has started school and has soccer practice four days a week.  I have new guidelines for our dossier so I am scrambling to get everything done.  It would be easy to get overwhelmed but we are blessed in so many ways.

I thank God for my friend Tonya, who offered to give Amy a ride to school in the morning so I don't have to wake Belle up.  (It would not have been a good morning to wake Belle up today.  She has a pretty high fever and slept until after 9:00!)  I thank God for my friend Margaret who called and offered to give Amy a ride to practice.  Once again God has shown me how much we are blessed with our church family.

Jason has an upgrade at work this weekend and I have drill.  Not sure how it's all going to work out...  Amy certainly has been a big help babysitting!  She is an amazing young woman.  Belle gives her a hard time sometimes because she is her sister but they really do love each other.

Anyway, one last thought.  As Jason and I were up with Belle last night and at 4:30 this morning I felt such an overwhelming peace about being a stay at home mom.  Yes, financially it was been tough at times and honestly there are days when I miss work.  It's just so awesome to be there when your kids are sick and not have to put them in daycare or figure out who is going to miss work and stay home with them.  Thank you Lord for blessing our family!

"Pregnancy Blahs"
I remember a point in my pregnancy where it didn't seem real.  I think it was about halfway through.  Anyway, I remember just wanting to hold my baby.  I didn't want to wait anymore.  It was a strange feeling.  I feel that way now.  I want our little girl home.  We saw a video of her the other day and I just wanted to go get her.  It made me happy to see her smiling face, but very sad that we can't be with her.

We got our fingerprints done.  Some of mine didn't come out too great on the biometrics machine and I am SO praying that I won't have to go back to redo them.  I should know within a week.  Of course if I do have to go back then I know it's all part of God's plan and there is a reason for it.  I do think our Father is trying to teach me patience!  We are putting together a photo album of the family and house to send to little Mimi.  Once we get our fingerprints back she can have pictures!  She asked for a picture of her mom every day!  I am so honored that God would give us this child.

For a while now I was sad that this sweet little girl wouldn't have a lot of family around.  I realized just how wrong I was in church this weekend.  We may not have a lot of biological family in the area, but we do have wonderful, caring "family" at church and I love them very much.

Amy starts school tomorrow.  I am glad she is in an environment with other believers.  Some people have mentioned that I am "sheltering" her by sending her there.  I think I am "arming" her to live in this world.

I will be better about posting, I promise!  Thank you all for your love and support!!!

Time for An Update
Nothing like a friendly encouraging word to remind you to update your blog (thanks Greg).  So what's new?  Well, we drove to Portland (Maine) last Friday for our fingerprint appointment with Immigration.  Once we receive the paperwork back from them, it will be the last piece of paper we need.  Our dossier will be complete.  This means we are scrambling to double and triple check all the other paperwork.  Simply because over the last few months some of the guidelines have changed about what needs to be notarized or not and what needs to be a certified copy or not.  So Patty has been working to keep on top of that.

Also, we've been working to finalize the grants so we can send a few more of those out.  They would be a huge blessing to help us towards the rest of the costs we have for the adoption.  Another additonal piece is the photo pages we need to send in with our dossier.  We've been collecting and organizing pictures through the last few months and now we need to make sure they are printed in a good quality so we can organize them on pages.  We were blessed a few years ago to get an inexpensive but realitvely nice digital camera.  The problem is that there's no setting for "just take a nice picture".  It has every other setting for close up pictures, indoor, outdoors, you name it.  But I really just want to be able to push the button and have a nice picture come out.  Looks like I'm going to have to read through the owner's manual.

In other news, school starts tomorrow.  I think it's going to be a rough transition for Isabelle.  She really enjoyed having Amy home this summer and loved to just follow her around and do "big girl" stuff.  My prayer is that she doesn't drive Patty completely bonkers the first few days they are home alone together.  But, like all things, it will work out.

One final thought/note of inspiration.  Yesterday's study at church was the end of Mark 4.  Jesus, being exhausted, falls asleep on the ship.  You remember the story, a storm kicks up and is throwing the boat all over the place.  The disciples ask Jesus, "Master, carest thou not that we perish?"  And of course Jesus commands the sea to be still, and it listens.  But thinking about this boat in the HUGE storm.  Remember some of these men were fishermen by trade, they knew what life on the water was like, but even they felt they were going to perish.  And the whole time as they are going through this overwhelming and scary trial, where was Jesus?  Right there with them.

"...Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.  So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?'" -- Hebrews 13:5-6

Yesterday Was a Great Day!
Yesterday was a great day!  Belle turned three and we took her to Texas Roadhouse to eat.  She got to sit on the saddle and have everyone wish her a happy birthday.  She was so cute!!!!  It's hard to believe she is three.  Time flies by so fast!  Saturday she is having her official birthday party.  She is pretty excited.

If that weren't reason enough to have a great day, we got a call from USCIS.  I sent our fingerprint form in Monday and we got a call YESTERDAY to schedule our appointment.  That's right, it took FOUR days to schedule our appointment!!  The lady who called was amazing!  She was very polite and helpful and got us just the appointment we wanted because we have to travel so far.  Our appointment is August 29 and then it's just putting the finishing touches on everything and getting it authenticated and we are DONE!  What an awesome feeling!

Today is another sunny day.  It's so nice after all of the rain.  I have to get out there and weed the garden soon, the weeds are everywhere!

Please pray for the families in Ethiopia as they get ready to return home with their beautiful children.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!
We are waiting for our fingerprint appointment in Portland.  We really can see the end from here.

There are currently four families in Ethiopia being united with their precious children.  Please pray for them and their children for health, safe travel and God's hand to be in this entire process.  Their blogs are:

Please also pray for the children in the home waiting to be adopted who will not leave this trip.  I think it is very difficult for them to see children getting families and for them to remain there until it is their time.

On a different note, my sister, Mary, came to visit from the weekend.  There is a ten year age difference between us and we have never spent a lot of time together.  Or at least not as much time as I would like!  We had a great visit and the girls think she is a blast!!!  We had a relaxing time and then Saturday night Mary, Amy and I went to the movies and ate a ton of candy and popcorn.  Sunday we went to church together and the teaching was awesome!  (I so appreciate the teachings in our church - straight from the Bible.  I also love the people!!)   It was a great weekend and we already miss her!   The girls and I are already talking about driving to her house and hanging out for a few days before school starts for Amy.

It had rained a lot lately.  We did have some sun this weekend but we could use a few days of just sunshine.  I miss going to the park with the girls!

Please remember to keep the traveling families in your prayers!

We Have Our Homestudy Back!
Today we got our homestudy back, which is the last thing we need except for our fingerprints!  It was nice to see Stephanie, our social worker again.  It must be rewarding to help unite forever families with their children.

One of Isabelle's best friend's little sister has the chicken pox.  Poor kid has them ALL over and is not feeling well.  Her name is Lana, please pray for her to heal quickly and for her mom to get sleep!  It's so tough when your kids are sick and there is not much you can do.

We sent another package to our precious Mimi.  We had ordered her a bible in Amharic but it was not here in time.  We ended up getting her a cute little teddy bear from Build a Bear with a pink sweatsuit.  The girls kissed and hugged the bear before we mailed it.  KP and her family are adopting a baby boy from Ethiopia and they are bringing the package to Mimi.  Please pray for them and the other traveling families to have a safe trip and stay healthy.  Their blog is   http://www.molesfamilywv.blogspot.com/

Amy's asthma is acting up again so she could not go to Junior High Teen Camp with her friends.  She was disappointed but it was her idea not to go.  She has not been able to sleep at night.  A change of medicine is helping her, thank God!  She's even napping with Belle right now.  I can't remember the last time she napped.  Our girls are so precious to us - all three of them!

Same old, same old.....
Not much news to report.

We did take a trip to where Jason grew up in Madawaska.  It's a pretty little town right on the Canadian border.  It was nice to visit family and show Belle where Jason grew up but it was a very fast trip.

We had supper with some friends last night.  They have two beautiful children and are adopting a sibling group from Ethiopia.  It was so nice to fellowship with people who are adopting.  I think unless you have adopted you can't really completely understand what a wild journey adoption can be!  It was a great meal and a wonderful visit!

The garden is doing good - lots of tomatoes and cucumbers and peas.  Belle thinks it's awesome to pick peas and eat them.  It's fun to watch her little face.  Amy likes to eat the produce AFTER it's picked.  I don't think she's too fond of the garden.   :O)

This coming weekend is the one of my last drills.  I have the September drill then I retire in October.  It's definitely something I am approaching with mixed feelings but I do think it's time for me to retire.  I will miss the people and the honor of wearing my uniform, but I will not miss being apart from my family.

We are still waiting on the final copy of our homestudy.  Please pray it will come quickly and we will get our fingerprints done quickly also.  I want our daughter home by Christmas!

Questions and Answers
Kari and her family should be in the United States tonight with precious Zoie!  (See previous posts.)  Praise God!  Please pray for them as they settle in after a very long trip.

I get a lot of questions about our adoption and here are the most common:

Have we ever met our daughter?  No, we have not.  We have seen pictures, a video and heard lots of stories about her.  She is a beautiful, sweet, amazing little girl.

What if we get there (Ethiopia) and we don't "connect"?  (I even had someone ask me if I could refuse to adopt her if I didn't "like" her once I met her!)  It's possible that we may not always get along.  Sometimes my 2 year old daughter and I don't see eye to eye.  Sometimes even my 13 year old daughter and I don't agree.  We are all human and we definitely don't get along all of the time.  This is the child that God chose for us and she needs us and we need her.  Parenting is the most difficult job I have ever had and the best, too!!!!

Does she have any living relatives, etc.?  My husband and I know a little about her background and will find out more once our fingerprints are done.  If SHE chooses to share any information with anyone else once she is here, then it is her choice.  We have prayed about it and feel it is a very personal decision.  Please, if you ask us and we tell you that we are not going to give you any information, that it will be her decision, please do not be insulted.  We have had so many people ask us this question but we really feel strongly about not disclosing her personal information.

(This one REALLY bugs me!)  Why not adopt a child of your own race?  We are ALL the HUMAN race, created in our Maker's image.  I am not making this up, read the Bible.  She looks different in some ways from us, that's true.  Unless you have an identical twin, chances are everyone looks a little different than you, too.

Why not adopt from this country?  First and foremost, this is what God has told us to do.  We have prayed for a long time about this and it is very clear to us.  Jason and I have both served in the military for a combined time of 30 years.  We have given a lot to this country, and this country to us.  To us, a child is a child and I do not care where that child lives.

Is it expensive?  It's all in what your priorities are.  Obviously some people cannot afford to adopt or do not feel called to adopt.  I have no idea how we are going to pay for the rest of the adoption, but God does.  We have applied for grants, had a yard sale and cut back a lot.  We do get a tax credit at the end of the year.  And some wonderful people have made donations.  :O)   Thanks everyone!

Does she speak English?  Some, and she is learning everyday.  Kids are quick to learn and she is very smart.  I would like to learn some of her language (Amharic) and we want to help her keep her culture alive.  This is very important to us.

I really love when people ask questions.  If you know me, then you know I love to talk!  Adoption is so near and dear to my heart.  Please keep us in your prayers as we wait for the final copy of our homestudy and wait for our fingerprints.  Please keep our precious daughter in your prayers that she would be safe and happy while she waits for us!

Our Great and Awesome God!
I can't even begin to tell you how blessed we were by our yard sale!!!  Brad, Autumn and Suzy, thank you for opening up your home and hearts to us and for all of the work you did.  Suzy - your baked goods are AMAZING!  Thanks to all of the wonderful people from our church who donated.  You are our family and I love you all!!!

We got the chance to meet so many interesting and wonderful people.  I can't believe that many people yard sale (and early too, you are right Autumn!!!).

Thank you, Jesus, my Lord and Savior for loving our little girl enough to allow us to do this adoption.  I prayed for $500 but we raised $767.50!  I am completely humbled and joyful that this yard sale went so well.

Please continue to pray for the Gibsons who are adopting precious Zoie from Ethiopia.  She is very sick and they have to remain in Ethiopia until she is better.  www.zoiegibson5.com

Thanks again to all of my wonderful friends (and family - Jason's mom and dad and grandmothers and aunt) who helped us to be one step closer to bringing Mimi home!!!

Urgent prayer
My friend Kari and her family are in Ethiopia right now (see previous post) trying to bring their baby home.  Their precious little baby, Zoie, is having difficulty breathing.  They are in the process of trying to take her to a hospital.

Please pray for their little one to be healed.  Also, please pray to give the doctors wisdom and discernment in making decisions.  Pray that the language barrier does not make this too confusing and bewildering for all of the family.  They have been through so much, yet through it all they praise God.  Lastly, pray for peace and comfort for the family!

Thank you for praying!!

Please Pray
Please pray for my friend, Kari, who is Ethiopia with her husband and children adopting a precious little girl named Zoie.  They have had a difficult journey for the last week with luggage, missed flights and court.  You can read about it on their blog (read Mom's daily posts).   www.zoiegibson5.com

Also, we got a rough draft of our homestudy back Friday and we are hoping and praying to have a notarized copy in our hands by this Friday.  Then we can send off for our fingerprints!!!  That will be the last step in the adoption besides putting our dossier together and getting it authenticated.

On a really happy note, Kari spoke with our little girl in Ethiopia.  Mimi said "tell my new mommy and daddy I love them!"  What an amazing blessing having Mimi in our lives is going to be.

Traditions
I'll be the first to say I have so much to learn about the Ethiopian culture and its traditions.  Today is our Independence Day ... July 4th.  Instantly, I think of BBQ, time with family and friends and fireworks.  Those are thoughts that are just "programmed" and come to mind when I hear "4th of July."

Most likely this will not be the case for Mimi.  She will probably not make the slightest connection when someone says "as American as apple pie" ... whatever that is supposed to mean.

It's so amazing to think of how much she will have to learn to begin to understand how we do things or why we do things in America.  But equally amazing is how Mimi will be able to share with us how things were done in Ethiopia and the traditions she grew up with.  It will be amazing.

As we get ready to view the parade today, I know Isabelle will love it, cause she is almost 3 and its just fascinating to her.  But what about next year?  Will Mimi enjoy it?  Will is scare her?  Will she sit and wonder why so many people are gathered for an event that seems to have no purpose?  It will be neat to see what she will think about so many new things.

My prayer today is for all the families traveling, not only in Ethiopia but all over the world as they are waiting to share their "gotcha day" with the newest member of their family.  Also, my prayer is with the men and women that are sacrificing their day for the safety and security that God has blessed us with in this country.

I'm thankful today for my wife and my daughters.  I pray God watch over little Mimi and may He bless her this day.

Yard Sale
My wonderful sister in the Lord, Autumn, has offered to hold a yard sale for us to help bring Mimi home.  The yard sale is on July 12 at Autumn's house.  Contact me if you want directions!  (I feel funny posting her address on our blog.)  Please pray specifically for good weather, earning enough money to buy Mimi a plane ticket home and also, most importantly, please pray that we could be witnesses to all of those who do not know Jesus Christ!

Out of the Mouth of Babes....
Today I took the girls to the mall so Amy could get a new bathing suit.  Amy picked out a very nice (modest) bathing suit!  (Yeah Amy!)  It only took around 30 minutes for her to find the "perfect" one.  (Double yeah Amy!!)  I was entertaining Belle in the shoe department.  Belle is the only two year old I know who adores shoes.  Funny kid.  Anyway, she took my hand and said "Mommy, I love you so much.  I love my family.  Thank you for bringing me down from heaven!"  I almost burst into tears in the middle of JC Penney.  What a sweet thing to say!

Belle finds it very cool to tell everyone that we are "dopting" (adopting) from Ethiopia.  I love the way she says Ethiopia!  It's funny to watch people's reactions!  Amy is my shy kid and Belle is definitely my outgoing child.  I wonder where Mimi will fit in the spectrum?

Children really are a gift from the Lord!

What a Wonderful Maker!
I haven't posted for a while.  A lot has been going on.....

We got to send Mimi a care package for her birthday.  I am sending it out today to a friend, Kari, who is going to pick up her little princess Zoie in Ethiopia next week!  Kari is going to give Mimi her package and give her hugs and kisses from us!  I got her girlie stuff - nail polishes, gel pens, earrings, a beautiful little cross, notebooks etc.  I think she will like her things.  I also got her gum and lollypops to share.  I wish I could see her little face open everything.

We got more pictures of Mimi recently and I must say that I have the three most beautiful daughters on the entire planet.  She is SO beautiful and sweet.  I wish I could wake up every morning and see her little smile.  It won't be long now!  I am praying that it will at least be before Christmas.

Hopefully we will get our homestudy back this week.  We are anxious to get our fingerprints done and ship our dossier OFF!!!!  My friend Tonya took photographs for our photo pages for the dossier this weekend (thanks Tonya) and I need to compile them sometime this week.  We are so very close to being done.

God is so awesome and so wonderful!  So much has been happening and I am not sure what I can and cannot share right now.  As I have said, America World is very protective of their children and I would never jeopardize our adoption.  Suffice it to say that God has had His hand in this adoption from the beginning and I am awestruck in wonder at how He loves His children!

For the group travelling to Ethiopia "He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber.  The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore."  Psalm 121:3,8

Beautiful Baby Girl!
It's been an amazing month in many ways!  My blog friend, Kari, has a new baby!  Check her out at www.zoiegibson5.com   She is AMAZING!  God is awesome!

I have never been a blog reader or even a person who chats but I must admit it is so wonderful following people in their adoption journeys and having the honor to pray for them!

It's supposed to rain all week but I think it has helped the garden a lot.  I am going to have to find creative outlets for the girls this week to keep them from getting bored.  I do wish it would rain more in Ethiopia - they sure could use it.

Not much to say today except praise our Father God for adopting us into His Kingdom and for allowing us to adopt another daughter into our family!

Date Night - Sort Of!!
Last night we had a date night.  Or at least we attempted to have a date!  Jason has been picking up all of the on-call shifts at work that he can for the extra money.  There is no way around it - adoption is expensive.  But then so are new cars, Starbucks coffee and gasoline.  Anyway, we left home and he got paged twice, and both times it made more sense for him to go right to work than come home and take care of things.  So I spent a lot time in his office doing nothing except for talking to him.  Funny thing is when you love someone it's okay just to be with them and not do anything.  AND of course it was nice to be "kidless" for a while, although we always end up talking about the girls and missing them on our date night!  Jason was worried that I was bored but sometimes it is just so nice to sit and not have anyone bother you!  All in all it ended up to be a good night.  Amy called when we were on our way home and said little miss Isabelle would like us to bring her home some grapes.

This adoption is expensive.  Without fail, almost always the first question people ask me when I tell them we are adopting - how much does it cost?  I just tell them that for the price of a car they can give a child a home and get blessed by having a child to love.  God has faithfully provided and so far we not had to borrow money.  I thank God for that and for my husband working so hard, and also for my daughters being willing to cut back on things like vacation (yeah, we are not going with gas at over $4 a gallon).

We have had people give donations and my dear friends Autumn and Brad and doing a yard sale for us on July 12.  You know, you can't really put a price on a child.  There are also grants and low interest loans and there is the nice tax credit for adoption too.....  It's just a matter of priorities.  I'm definitely not saying that everyone can afford to adopt or even feels called to adopt.  But there are ways if you want to and if God puts it on your heart He will provide.  The absolute best advice was from my friend Tonya - take it one step at a time!"  Of course the average person doesn't have $25,000 in the bank to adopt.  But you CAN do it and God does provide.  Okay, I'm off the soapbox.  :O)

Tonight our church is having an adoption fundraiser/awareness dinner.  It's unbelievable the number of people in the past year who have adopted in our church.  It's such a blessing to see!  I pray that it goes well, lots of money is raised and God touches peoples' hearts in ways that only He can.

Nothing New Really
We are in the waiting mode.  I does appear that Christmas travel is realistic.  We do wish to have little Mimi home sooner but God's timing is perfect.  Please just keep praying that God would keep her safe and guard her little heart and prepare her for the changes that she will encounter.

We went to the mall the other day and Isabelle picked out a pink teddy bear at Build A Bear for Mimi.  The little bear is sitting in Mimi's room right now waiting to be hugged.  It's difficult knowing that there is a little girl somewhere in the world waiting to join our family and sleep in her little bed and it's just paperwork that is holding her up.  I am glad that we do have to go through this process because I do think it is important to carefully place children in loving and safe homes.

The garden is doing great except for the cucumbers.  I have a ton of aphids and would love to try a natural approach to getting rid of them.  Anyone have any ideas?  I used one application of a nasty pesticide but after the plants flower I hate to put anything on them that would possibly stay on the plant long enough until we harvest the cucumbers.  It is so nice having a garden again!  Kind of neat to see how God makes stuff grow.  It's a good learning tool for Isabelle too, to see things grow and explain God's creation to her.

Four families had court yesterday in Ethiopia and two did not pass.  I cannot imagine how they must feel.  Please pray that God would comfort their hearts and protect their children.  Court closes in Ethiopia in August and opens in October.   Frustrating for the families adopting who want their children home but it is their country and we need to respect their culture.

Amy is done school and Belle is overjoyed to have her sissy home for the summer.  We are going to the Maine Discovery Museum when the girls wake up this morning.  They both look SO peaceful in their beds!  Even with a ten year age difference they love each other very much and are very good friends.  (Although Belle got mad at Amy the other day and told me that when I went to Ethiopia to get Mimi I needed to "bring Mimi home and leave sissy there!"  I explained to her that wasn't nice.  Where did that come from????)  Kids sure are funny!
